Target audience 

This course is aimed at learners that are employed as construction technicians or trade/craft persons in the building construction industry and having gained suitable experience and/or qualifications.
Construction technicians may be working in the vocational areas of design/architecture, building surveying, quantity surveying, estimating, building control, building management or civil engineering.
Trade or craft persons may wish to progress to being a site supervisor or manager or they may wish to gain suitable employment in a technical or professional position.

Entry requirements 

  • Ideally employed within the industry
  • An appropriate technician or craft qualification at level 3 or similar eg 'A' Levels
  • Ideally GCSE Grade 4 or higher in English and Mathematics
  • A successful interview
Course content 

The HNC Award has been developed as a work related qualification reflecting the knowledge and understanding required in the building sector. Note: elective modules are subject to change.

Assessment criteria 

Learners will complete coursework, research, investigation, written reports, presentations, test papers and practical exercises dependant upon the module content as part of the assessment process.
All assessments are graded on the basis of Pass, Merit and Distinction against assessment criteria. These provide an overall single grade for each subject module.

Progression 

Learners wishing to study further Higher Education qualifications can progress to part-time and full-time degree level courses at University

Other information 

Learners must have good time management skills and work in their own time to complete the necessary reading, research and assessment work to be successful in this qualification.

You are able to apply online for all courses, however to complete your course enrolment fully, you will need to have an interview and then be accepted onto a course.
